When spaceship Remus crash-lands on planet Morganthus, the Planet Master of Xerces sends the spacecraft Quest to rescue them, but it crash-lands, too. Baelon leads the away team, comprising himself, his rival Cabren, psi-sensitive Alluma, medic Dameia, martial arts fighter Quuhod and jittery rookie Cos. Finding only brutally murdered bodies aboard the Remus, Quest personal start getting brutally slaughtered, one-by-one, themselves. With their ship still damaged, the team investigates a nearby, lifeless alien pyramid, not realizing its using their own personal fears to hunt them down and kill them. As a lone spaceship proceeds on a rescue mission, its surprised crew encounters a strange pyramid form. Surprise turns to horror as, one by one, they discover their darkest nightmares all starting to become real. The pyramid has to be behind it all somehow, but how can they save themselves from its influence? Galaxy of Terror (1981) may be the most underrated of all science fiction movies. <br/><br/>Although it obviously shares plot elements with Alien (1979), it is definitely its own movie. Just as Alien strives for familiarity/realism with its English-language names and its destination of earth, Galaxy starts you off on Xerxes, a mysterious planet on the fringes of occupied space.<br/><br/>Sure, Xerxes may be mysterious, but it is positively ho-hum compared to Morganthus, where the plot takes you next. There, the astronauts must explore a terrifying pyramid which is at the core of the story.<br/><br/>In short, Alien is merely an excellent attempt at brutal realism in space. Galaxy of Terror is a metaphor or, if you wish, an allegory.<br/><br/>You see, it's heavy, man. Real Heavy. Much heavier than Alien. Normally, I don't like giving a movie the lowest possible grade (1/10), but when you face something as incredibly boring as "Galaxy of Terror", what can you do? This is a senseless, incoherent, stupid movie, filled with absolutely soulless characters. Five minutes after it's over you won't remember anything about it.
